PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Driving Forward initiative is currently under construction with hopes that projects will be completed in 2021.

"A strategic plan like the Driving Forward initiative is what our transportation system needs...by recognizing the great need and future demands that will be placed on our state’s transportation system, I applaud the Governor for her commitment to the Driving Forward plan."

- Ret. Major General Rita Aragon,

  Oklahoma Secretary of Military Affairs

BENEFITS

SAFETY
The #1 priority is the safety and security of our travelers. These projects will create safer Oklahoma roadways by addressing current weaknesses and providing solutions to achieve less congestion. Our state must anticipate population and economic growth and construct plans now so Oklahoma will be in an optimal position for increased traffic not only for safety, but also for economic development and tourism.
VISION
Many people might say “why now?” or “let’s just take this a little bit at a time”. For Oklahoma to continue to remain in the forefront of national planning, we cannot wait for these projects. Oklahomans need to proactively address these issues now for safety, jobs, and commerce in our state. Every mile or dollar we invest in our roads and bridges today allows future generations more opportunities, all over our state.
WORKFORCE
These additional routes in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City Metro area will provide motorists alternative options traveling to and from work. This helps decrease congestion and travel time, which reduces safety issues, and saves travelers time and money. For instance, with the addition of the Eastern Oklahoma County loop, commuters could live in the Bristow/Kellyville area and commute to Tinker Air Force base in about the same time as it takes to drive from El Reno or Purcell to Tinker.

"We applaud recent efforts that Gov. Mary Fallin and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority have put into strengthening the state's roadways, specifically the news that central Oklahoma will see the Kilpatrick Extension expanded on its west side and a new turnpike built in eastern Oklahoma County."

- Roy Williams,

CEO and president of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber
